You’re just too good to be true is the story of a cruel business that exploits lonely people, breaks their hearts, takes their pride, empties their bank accounts – often in the name of love – and leaves them open to ridicule of others.

At 93 pages this is a Penguin Special, planned to be ‘short enough to be read in a single sitting’. I can’t say that I managed it in a single sitting although this was not due to lack of interest. The book is an engrossing look at the internet scamming process told through the relationship between Stefanovic and her friend Bill, an older man who has been scammed for his life savings and who is still hoping that something good will come from far, far away.

Be warned this is a sad cautionary tale of loss without reparation. Worse still, those who have been scammed are often too embarrassed to report the fraud. A short, but chilling read.
